original drawings and watercolours by a master illustrator
5 – 7 October, Lewes House, 32 High St, Lewes BN7 2LX
6 – 8pm Friday, 10am – 6pm Saturday and Sunday

Edward Ardizzone (1900–1979) was an artist, author and one of the leading illustrators of the last century. Edward Ardizzone: Line, Light and Life was drawn from the collection of Simon Blaxland, a Lewes resident who first discovered Ardizzone in the late 1980s and has been collecting his art ever since.

The exhibition focussed on the post-war period when Ardizzone developed and fully realised his style and creativity. Evocative London public house and street scenes, illustrations for books including Stig of the Dump and The Pilgrim’s Progress, as well as for publications such as Radio Times, the original artwork for one of the Lyons Corner House lithographs, and many beautiful drawings and watercolours were included in the exhibition. The images shown here are just an indication of what was shown in the exhibition.
